“There is no-one so powerful as the person who feels
loved, encouraged and supported.”
~ Nick Williams and Sue Cheshire
The video playing below is one and a half hours of footage that we captured at our taster event, called The Breakthrough Power of Circles which was an opportunity to
experience the power of cirlces in person, and meet our very special guest, celebrity hairdresser, Michael van Clarke, who shared some thoughts on how he built one of the UK's top 3 hairdressing businesses. We hope you enjoy it!
What is a leadership circle?
Leadership circles are a powerful methodology adapted and enhanced by Sue Cheshire (via her organisation, The Global Leaders Academy) that is specifically designed to help small groups of entrepreneurs and leaders to rapidly catalyse their collective growth, learning and success. For twenty years, Sue has been pioneering this technology with the world’s leading business people, including heads of major corporations and household names.
Now, for the first time in the UK, in a collaboration between The Global Leaders Academy and Inspired Entrepreneur, Sue Cheshire and Nick Williams are running the first ever leadership circle, for “mature” small business owners, who want to be supported and inspired toward the next chapter of their personal and entrepreneurial brilliance.
In its simplest form, a leadership circle is just that; a small group of kindred spirits sharing and supporting each other on their entrepreneurial journeys; but there is also something extremely special about these circles, they’re a space in which miracles of personal growth, transformation and insight frequently occur.
What kind of person joins a leadership circle?
“Self-leadership isn’t really self-improvement, because there’s nothing really wrong
with you. It's more about remembering your inner leadership and then making your
relationship with it stronger each day. Self-leadership is simply reconnecting
to the person you have always been.”
~ Nick Williams, co-founder, Inspired Entrepreneur.
We’ve formed a select group of small business owners, and created very first leadership circle of its kind in the UK. So, if you’re ready to follow your joy and calling wherever it may lead, step beyond your fears into a greater sense of yourself, and commit to bringing forth your contribution to the world at a higher level, then I’d invite you to consider joining us on this unique journey.
In essence, the big question you need to ask yourself, before signing-up, is this: am I ready to commit to living at the leading edge of my life?
To become the person you are truly capable of becoming, to be as successful as you can be, we believe that tools and strategies are not enough; you also need the encouragement and support of like-minded souls and an ongoing communion with others who share that larger vision.
We all long to be with people with whom we can explore our potential, and when entrepreneurs sit in a circle together and share their wisdom, an environment of mutual trust, non-judgement and respect is created. Participants feel valued and heard, and the circle becomes a forum for the exchange of insights, ideas, goals and dreams. The circle enables groups to accomplish their aspirational goals by seeking the very best from one another.
It is our belief that there are thresholds we cannot cross alone; we need the support and encouragement of our peers to reach our full potential and to unlock the higher purpose of our business. It is for this reason that we believe that leadership circles offer one of the greatest privileges of human life; to play midwife to the birth of each other’s dreams.
We know that when you don't connect with kindred spirits on a regular basis, your own entrepreneurial ambitions may weaken and wither. You have to stay connected both when things are going great, and when they're not. When your doubts and resistance kick in, there’s a tendency to give them even more power by withdrawing from your tribe. But it’s much easier to keep inspiration, love and creativity alive when you’re frequently surrounded by inspirational and passionate people.
We believe that joining a circle is a sign of strength because it takes courage and flies in the face of fear. It is an act of commitment to yourself and to the world. Being with people who share your passion and purpose is so precious; when you’re in the “deep end” of your practical business challenges, it pays to be surrounded by others who are full of energy, ideas and have a positive belief that “you can”.
Who is this circle specifically aimed at?
“Inspired entrepreneurs are, by definition, leaders - they are
shaping and creating a better future.”
~ Nick Williams, co-founder, Inspired Entrepreneur.
This ongoing leadership circle is aimed at you, if …
- You’re committed to making your personal contribution in the world.
- You have at least two years experience of running your own small business.
- You’ve already experienced a level of business success and are generating adequate income.
- You’ve reached a plateau or threshold and you’re struggling to take things “to the next level”.
- You long to be encouraged, supported and inspired toward the next chapter of your brilliance.
- You’re committed to your own personal growth and are prepared to invest in yourself.
Joining this leadership circle will support you in ...
- Asking the big questions: What is your purpose? What is your greatest contribution?
- Refocusing your work, life and business around your own personal brilliance.
- Benefiting from the incredible wisdom, connections and encouragement of the group.
- Taking stock of your success so far and recognising how far you’ve actually come.
- Holding yourself accountable for your development, growth and personal mastery.
- Stepping into the next level of your leadership potential.
- Speaking freely, openly and candidly, and when necessary, being vulnerable.
- Showing up in the world in ways that feel true and authentic to you.
- Accessing and trusting your inner wisdom, spiritual intelligence and guidance.
- Bridging the gap between your spirituality and practical, real-world results.
- Giving and receiving in equal measures and co-supporting the evolution of the group.
- Raising your aspirations, making bigger goals, and contributing at a higher level.
- Increasing your awareness of patterns of thought and behaviour that hold you back.
- Catalysing “breakthrough thinking” by working at the edge of your comfort zone.
- Recognizing what your soul is prompting you toward, and acting on that calling.
How do circles work?
Each monthly meeting is divided into a morning and afternoon session. In the morning you’ll receive expert input on a specific subject that’s highly relevant to your learning and development as an entrepreneur (each month, a different subject will be covered). Sometimes the input will come from Sue or myself, but when necessary, we’ll bring in special guest experts to share their wisdom.
Sue and I have spent years building connections with leading thinkers from all areas of personal growth and entrepreneurship so we have dozens of experts we can call upon to step-in and act as resources for the group.
To give you a taste, here are just a few of the experts we have on stand-by (note that this is just a small fraction of our combined Rolodex, so regardless of the issues faced by the group, it's extremely likely that either Sue or myself will be able to source an leading expert who will be able to help to catalyse breakthroughs in that area) -
- Robert Holden: Founder, The Happiness Project.
- Penny Power: Ecademy Founder & Social Media Legend.
- Emma Jones: Founder of Enterprise Nation.
- Katie Ledger: Portfolio Working Expert & Recovering TV Journalist.
- Richard Olivier: World Class Leadership Expert.
- Mike Pegg: Founder of The Strengths Movement.
- Barefoot Doctor: The Supercharged Taoist.
- Francis Briers: Founder, Fudoshin Development.
- Richard Barrett: Founder, Barrett Values Centre.
- Valerie Pierce: Critical Thinking Expert.
- Rachel Elnaugh: Ex-Dragon & Entrepreneurial Leader.
- Judy Piatkus: Keynote Speaker & Founder of Piatkus Books.
- Nikki Slade: Legendary voicework pioneer.
- Chantal Cooke: PR Expert & Founder of Passion For The Planet.
- Kate Warren: Coaching Business Expert.
- Sarah Alexander: Leading Business & Performance Coach.
- Mark Shaw: UK's Leading Twitter Expert.
- Ed Peppit: Product Development and Publishing Expert.
- Niki Hignett: Online Marketing Expert.
… then, in the afternoon session, there’s the opportunity to bring “live issues” into the circle and receive the support of the group. Contributions are made in structured ways, so as to maximise the value of the time we spend together, and so that everyone can learn from the challenges of all participants. It is in this part of the day where much of the magic of leadership circles takes place; it’s really something that you need to witness.
Also, I think you'll be amazed at the talent present within the circle itself; there will be skills, experience and expertise that we can all tap into; someone may have advertising and marketing expertise, someone else finance, technology, social media, communication, etc...
... think of your circle peers as your “non-exec board”, but without the baggage!
But what, exactly, will I gain from being part of this experience?
“True leadership is not about being fully informed but continuously
receiving insight and guidance.”
~ Nick Williams, co-founder, Inspired Entrepreneur.
On paper, this circle is about business success, but in reality it’s about so much more. Think of this group as a way of encouraging and supporting you through the process of stepping into your brilliance, unique purpose and true power. This circle will support you in showing up as your most authentic self, both for your own sanity and well-being, and in service to the world.

Guest Expert: November 4th, 2011: Mike Dickson
For the inaugural breakthrough leadership circle, we are welcomed Mike Dickson, who invited us into an enquiry about How to Inspire a More Generous World. Mike has started a global movement to inspire generosity.
Mike shared elements of his own journey and how he was inspired to set up the charity Whizz Kid and how he has, so far, raised over £75 million for children with disabilities. He also shared how he approaches his work as a philanthropic advisor, advising wealthy people on how to generously share their wealth.
He helped us to:
- Explore generosity and how it contributes to happiness and success.
- Enquire into “What is enough?”.
- Enquire into how we express our generosity.
- Enquire into how we receive generosity.
- Discover more about the true nature of generosity.
... and he was just the first many heartfelt and incisive experts who will contribute to the circle.
What is my commitment?
“As you create your right life, you become a leader automatically not
because you want others to follow your rules, but because
they'll be inspired by your example.”
~ Nick Williams, co-founder, Inspired Entrepreneur.
The circle is ongoing and you’re free to be a member for as long as you wish.
Obviously our goal is to make this experience such a valuable and intrinsic part of your success that you’d never want to be without it. Also, as you grow, learn and succeed, we’ll be creating other circles (aimed at entrepreneurs with larger businesses) that you may want to graduate into.
We’ll also expect you to -
- Encourage and support your fellow group members at every step of their journey.
- Be, as much as you’re able, vulnerable & courageous enough to receive gifts from the group.
- Recognise and celebrate growth and success whenever it’s achieved.
- Be willing to have difficult conversations where necessary.
- Have a sense of humour!
About your facilitators
“Leadership is not about being right, it is about being real”
~ Sue Cheshire, founder, The Global Leaders Academy.
Sue and I are such passionate advocates of growth and learning; we believe that committing to your own continual development is critical to your success. I truly believe that we cannot reach our potential on our own, which is the reason why we’re committing to making these groups central to our offering at Inspired Entrepreneur.
Sue Cheshire has a clear soul purpose of working with leaders and their organizations to enrich individual lives through personal transformation and to build communities that are not only sustainable but are truly agents of world benefit. Her lifelong passion is to awaken the business world to the opportunities and challenges facing the planet and to explore authentic ways to operate and lead with consciousness, inspiration and a healthy bottom line. Her core values of courage, compassion, curiosity and integrity are her guiding principles.
… Sue has run hundreds of these sessions over the last twenty years and both of us have seen the amazing breakthroughs that are catalysed, the friendships formed, the isolation broken, and the real-world results achieved. Most importantly, both she and I have witnessed the aspirations, strengths, vulnerabilities and shared humanity that these groups enable us to experience.
… and as for myself, you may already be familiar with my story, so I’d just like to add that I feel blessed to be in a position to share this methodology with you, because I know it’ll have a profound impact on your self-esteem, well-being, success, income and quality of life.
I’m looking forward to welcoming you to the group, so that Sue and I can watch you grow in confidence, rise to new challenges, and surpass even your own highest aspirations for success.
This is our greatest joy.

“I attended a Breakthrough Leadership Circle event and found it an extraordinary experience.
Connecting in this way with a group of people was both intimate and powerful. I felt supported
and able to be myself. The business ideas that were generated in the 'enquiry and advocacy process'
were many and profound. I even had some more ideas afterwards on the way home and next
morning. If you are intrigued, then all I can say is, 'You should be!' Check it out.”
~ Leda Sammarco, Writers Coach @ ledasammarco.com
“It was an amazing experience and very impressive. It
provided significant support in a major next step”
