Rick Arrandale / Rick Thorne: Make the world richer by becoming an inspired teacher
"Every day of my life I have seen how powerful good
teaching can be. It can transform the lives of
students, who then go on to transform the lives of others.
That’s why I am passionate about helping as many people as
possible become inspired teachers."
Rick Arrandale
In December 2006 Rick Arrandale was diagnosed with cancer, and after eighteen months illness, he sadly passed away in a hospice on June 27th 2008. He was only 45. His funeral was on July 9th in Portchester, Hampshire, UK.
… one of my greatest blessings, and challenges, since 2002 was having Rick in my life. Rick was a successful university lecturer, and I helped him transition from his teaching career into self-employment, and we then became friends & colleagues.
My immediate thought when I received news of his death was to carry on his legacy of helping people not trained as teachers to become educators and share what they knew with others. I talked to his brother Patrick, and his parents, Val and Eric, and they agreed that we can make our material available to anyone who would benefit from it at no cost.
Below you'll find a specially created PDF version of Rick's flagship Inspired Teaching e-course, and two hours worth of supporting audio. The first mp3 is part of the original e-course materials, and the second is an extra interview I did with Rick that goes into more detail about how you apply the principles of Inspired Teaching. This material is a huge part of Rick's legacy to me.

"You must teach from your love of your subject but you can also learn to structure what you know so you can teach it more effectively."

... Rick had many passions and one of his major ideas was his belief that anyone could take what they knew and teach it to others. His great joy was helping people access and unleash their “inner teacher”. I saw him to do that for hundreds of people in the short time I knew him. I never tired of that amazing look of recognition when his students realized what it was they had to teach and how they could teach it.
He also mentored me, and he saw my unrealized potential to become a good educator. His support was often tough and challenging, but the result was that I was able to become a good educator and take my work and business to a whole new level. Rick and I also ran seminars together, had discussions that we turned into CD’s and I asked Rick to create an online learning programme that encapsulated his years of experience and taught people in seven easy lessons how to identify what they knew and competently teach it.
So we would love you to have access to Rick’s material free of charge – with just one condition – please use the material to teach what you have to share. Don’t rob us of your unique contribution.
Should you feel you’d like to, you’re welcome to make a donation to the hospice where Rick spent his last days: www.rowanshospice.co.uk but this is your choice.
"Truly inspired teachers help people re-configure and understand their lives in a new way."
